Oku

A boutique hotel on the Algarve coast, photographed across three days and one way of seeing.

APPROACH

The quiet confidence that built Oku's reputation was never going to travel through volume. The new identity carries the hotel to a wider audience at the same register — a refusal to perform, a belief that atmosphere outlives amenities.

CONTEXT

Oku is a twelve-room hotel built into the cliffs south of Lagos, designed by a small Portuguese architecture practice and run by its owners. It spreads through word of mouth among people who travel too often to be impressed easily. Ahead of their third season, the owners came to us with a specific challenge: full occupancy, but a brand that still felt like a placeholder.

THE PROCESS

We photographed the hotel the way a guest sees it. Arrival, before the eyes adjust. The hour when the cliffs go gold and you don't reach for a camera, you just look.

RESULTS

Oku reported a 40% increase in direct bookings in the six months following the new visual identity rollout. The photography was featured in Cereal Magazine and used by Condé Nast Traveller for their Algarve guide.
